Who am I?
I'm a 37-year old (almost) living in the middle of Indiana. I grew up generally in the midwest and I have all the consequent cultural aspects.
I grew up poor-ish in Iowa but in a good family, and I used to be smart when I was a kid. I ended up in engineering school (chemical engineering) and finished 9 years later including a stint with a bar and with Little Caesar's Pizza training store managers.
For engineering, I worked in the oilfields (actually a lot of gas) in Wyoming for almost three years, and then I moved to Indiana to work on electronic controls of diesel engines at Cummins. I still live in Columbus. I have since become a patent attorney and I write patent applications on just about everything under the sun.
On the personal side, the history is a bit simpler. I had no success with women whatsoever through high school and much of college. Then one day, Barb basically fell into my lap (I'd like to think of a better way to say that) and here we are 16 years and 6 awesome kids later. Barb is the offensive line of my life - ever since she's been around I've been throwing touchdown passes and everybody thinks I'm great. However, the common denominator of my success is that much of it has been since she's been there for me.
I've had the good fortune and insatiable curiousity to figure out just about everything there is to know about the way this world works. I've seen at least the U.S. society from the bottom to near the top (say 93% of the way up), so other than some secret stuff that Warren Buffett and Skull & Bones are involved in, I've got a pretty good handle on what's going on. Although I know a lot about this world, I know nothing about the next one so don't ask me about that. I'm happy to talk about anything else, though.
My updates are intended to be twice a week or so, but I doubt I'll keep that pace. However, my comments will tend to be deep so if you take some time once in a while to look around you may find it worthwhile.
Cheers,
Steve Wills
